Dr. Xiaolei Tang, MD, PhD

Dr. Xiaolei Tang, MD, MSc, PhD, is Professor of Physiology & Immunology and a founding faculty member of the Lewyt College of Veterinary Medicine at Long Island University (LIU). He earned his M.D. from Wannan Medical College, M.Sc. in Immunology from Fudan University, and Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology from the University of Arizona. He was later trained as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Vipin Kumar’s lab and as a research fellow in Dr. Harvey Cantor’s lab. He has held faculty appointments at the University of Texas, Loma Linda University, and LIU.

A pioneer in tissue-specific, HLA-E (Qa-1)-restricted CD8⁺ regulatory T cells, Dr. Tang’s research focuses on immune regulation and adult stem cells, as well as their translation into clinical applications. His discoveries form the foundation of TangGene’s nanoparticle platform. As CSO, he leads the company’s R&D strategy, guiding preclinical studies and translating cutting-edge immunology into novel therapies for autoimmune diseases.
